Alone, meaning by themselves and no one else with them, probably high school age. However, kids in our area go out with groups of friends and no adults along probably starting in 3rd or 4th grade and generally in groups of 3 or more. They can pretty much go as far as they feel like walking that night, we don't restrict it to just our block or anything like that. From what we had come to our house, I would say that was pretty much the norm. We live in an area where kids are on their bikes all summer riding without adults along to their friend's house, to the swimming pool, the ball fields, etc. probably around the same age, 3rd-4th grade.
