Wondering if a gift is appropriate for a 17 yr. old at his Eagle Scout Honor Ceremony coming up...not sure what to do? Is it common to give a gift or no??

If so, do you have any recommendations for a gift?

Thanks

I've never heard of giving a gift for this type of ceremony.

Our BSA Explorer Post generated a Eagle, (A First for our state, ever)

The Post did the Awards Ceremony (arranging it all, printing the invitations), the catering, etc.

As a Post we got him some Eagle "Swag", and knickknacks, Framed up the letters and certificates.

From the General Invite I did not see him getting anything, other then Some notes and letters.

The Public officials did "Official Proclamations", Or Letter from there offices.

One cool thing we got was an Eagle Scout memorabilia box similar to this:

https://www.catholiccompany.com/pers...ke-box-i35054/

He can keep all his Scout stuff in it.

You also could do gift cards to stores he may like, such as an outdoors store if he likes camping or hiking. If he’s going to college you could get a gift card to a store that sells swag for the college he will attend.

Thank you....

***he's not a relative so I don't want to overstep bounds. Was yours for your son? Do you think it's too much to give a gift for this if you aren't family??

It's not typical in our Scout troop for people to bring gifts to an Eagle Scout ceremony, but a congratulations card is definitely appropriate.

Op, Gifts for this occasion are not expected but always appreciated.

Yes the box would probably be more appropriate from a mentor or family member. If you just want to give a token, I would go with a gift card inside a greeting card with a congratulatory note.

Small gifts that are more memorabilia oriented are appropriate, but not necessary. Our troop usually gives some small token swag that represents the Eagle to the scout and family/friends usually give something like a memory display or swag type gift. Pens, tie tacks, that sort of thing. Biggest gift our son received, as part of the ceremony actually, he was presented a flag that had flown over the capitol by the SAR.

Honestly the best gift you can give if you're not a family member or part of the troop, is being there for his ceremony. I don't think these kids even realize how much it means to them until they actually get up there to receive the Charge and see their friends in the audience.
