My parents never asked me to do it. I volunteered at age 13.

Me, never, I was a girl, regulated to washing dishes and other 'girl' things. My brothers started mowing around 9yrs old. My son started when he was about 12 or 13 when we got a self propelled mower. The old push mower we had probably weighed almost as much as he did when he was younger.

I was 12. My dad had started mowing the yard and came inside and told me to come out. He showed me what to do and stood right behind me for a few minutes then I finished mowing the back yard. At 13 I had 6 yards I was mowing, top price of $5! Good money when I was buying my own gas at a whopping quarter a gallon.
I started my sons around the same age. I am thankful I didn't have a riding mower when I did. Even if I had had one, the boys would have learned to push mow for a long time before I'd let them get on the riding mower.

Remember cutting the grass at the first home I ever lived in, so I was at least 9 or younger. Even then I could remember loving to cut the grass. It was at least a couple years before I took over all of the yard work including the trimming, edging, etc.
Still love doing yard work even though I have a condo with no yard now ):
My dad now cuts the grass since my younger brother (17) has no interest in it while I take care of everything else except for tree/limb removal (dad also likes using the chainsaw).

I was 12, but used an electric mower and electric weed whacker.

I was about ten when my dad showed me how to mow. Usually my brothers would mow instead. There was one summer where my older brother was off to college, but my younger brother (the youngest overall) was too little to mow. My sister and I took turns mowing.

My oldest has been mowing since he was nine. Our new yard is TINY. We have an electric mower and he can get the front, back, and sides finished in about twenty minutes. The grass is a dry weather variety, so it doesn’t even need to be mowed that often unless it’s unusually cool and rainy.

I was 10. I'm a girl. I mowed our yard until I left home for college. It took 5 hours. My brother was only 3 years younger but he didn't have to do it until I left home. When I complained, Dad would say, but you do such a good job or you need more practice. LOL I didn't mind mowing at all, just the 5 hours it took out of my free time. And I never got paid.

Adding this to my comment: my son never mowed the grass. We had horses and cattle for that job.

I don't think he ever mowed a lawn until he was about 30 and as soon as he needed to mow, he bought a riding lawn mower.
