EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A teenager who soaked her hair in gasoline to try to kill head lice was critically burned when the gas fumes ignited and set her head ablaze, police said.
Jessica Brooks, 18, was in serious condition today at the burn unit at University Hospital in Louisville, Ky., following Sunday night's fire at her Evansville apartment.
What a shame! With the many products available for head lice, why would she choose gasoline?
Ya think she was worried people would find out? I imagine lice is gross enough to be ashamed to buy the stuff at the store for it. yuck. poor dear, now everyone knows.
As someone else posted maybe she was embarrassed to go and buy the lice treatment stuff at a store. She probably heard about the old timers using kerosene as a way to rid lice and thought gasoline would do the same thing. Poor girl. Could you imagine if the lice were not on her head but elsewhere?
Having dealt with lice myself, for me it was a bit embarrassing to buy the stuff. I still get embarrassed buying my female products and it's something that is natural for women to have the need for. I just don't like the idea of people knowing when I'm on the rag or when I have "that not so fresh feeling."
