I think there is a lot of area between John, Michael, Jane, etc. and Marijuana Pepsi. I personally find traditional names a little boring, but would never dream of Honey, Beautiful, or Rumor. Some of it is lack of education, I think. some of it is just people wanting to be different. What bugs me is people spelling their kids names wrong. I know a little boy named "Blase" with an accent over the e.

The great irony is that these kinds of names tend to be anything but sophisticated.

You brought up an area that I neglected to include in my OP: Unconventional spellings. I understand the parents wanting their child to stand out but if a child's name is spelled unconventionally, that could influence an employer to discard their resume. After all, the employer may view that as a typo and would likely not take a resume seriously if the person can't spell their name correctly! It also makes them appear iliterate.

Speaking of Pet peeve, I just named my new Lhasa Apso "Little One Kenobi".

I hope this doesn't scar her down the road one day.

I went to vocational school a few years back with a down-to-earth, actress/model-looking woman in her early 30s whose name, believe it or not, was Cloud. She said her parents weren't hippies, either. Go figure.

Also, not sure what it is about Utah, but they often give odd names to their children. Spelled and pronounced differently than one would imagine. Although it is so common that only outsider gentiles like myself would find them odd. Before anybody with a child named Odonna gets their undergarments in a wad, I want to make it clear that I don't care. Just pointing it out.
