CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. — A politician in a New York suburb called police on two 13-year-old boys for selling cupcakes and other baked goods without a permit, according to a report Monday.
The Journal News in Westchester County said the boys, Andrew DeMarchis and Kevin Graff, had a brisk business selling cupcakes, cookies, brownies and Rice Krispie treats for $1 each in a Chappaqua park.
There was a story in the papers here about a guy who was unemployed and began making grilled cheese sandwiches in his apartment and selling them. He became hugely popular and handed out the sandwiches on the down low. He got in some trouble because you can't do that without a health certificate and permit/license. Food/vendor permits are very expensive to get.
I don't see why these kids should be above that because they are kids.
the reason they were shut down is because they are on public property. if all you need is minor children at the front to be able to sell food on public property, that is viewed by some as a problem.
Unfortunately the law states they need a permit and that is why they were stopped from selling. It was even clear that the cops didn't want to shut the kids down, but due to the offical complaint they had no choice.

I think there is a big difference between doing something like that for charity or a kid opening a lemonade stand for a day in front of their house. These kids were running a BUSINESS and businesses have laws and rules that need to be followed.

Their kids for gods sakes....cut them a break.
