2.5. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I'm going to do that though.

lol...I thought the same thing. We ended up with 3, so you have 2 we can call it 2.5 between us.

3 seemed to be the right number for us. It's weird, you have a pre-conceived notion going into it about how many you want, but reality often takes over. It's a decision each family has to make. For us, 3 just felt like the right number. My son is 5 and I have 21 month old and 6 month old daughters. Following number 2 it felt like something was missing, following number 3 it felt like our family was complete.

I think 2 or 3 is a good number. I actually have 4 which definitely too many for ME right now!

This is me too! While I sometimes want to have more, I know that once mine are grown, I'll have more time and resources to help other kids than I would if I had more than my own two. That said, sometimes I do get a twinge and I think "if only we had more..." We're still young (young-mid thirties), but our kids are 9 and 7, so to have more would really be starting over again... *sigh*

Two kids... my reasoning is different than many others.... please note I have 3 and we are not having anymore.

  • If you have 2 kids a family of 4 can stay in a single hotel room.... legally. Most rooms have a maximum occupancy of 4. This is not an issue when they are supe little but once the hit the 5, 7, 9 ages......it does and you now have to rent 2 rooms.
  • Most cruise ship cabins are a maximum occupancy of 4. One extra kid makes a huge difference on price since you have to get 2 cabins and miss out on the 3rd and 4th passenger discounts.
  • Convertibles for vacations, sit.... 4.
  • Amusement park rides are easier with 2 kids when they require a parent to ride with them. Many times I wish we could have both gone to go on a ride but instead one parent has to wait with the other two and take turns.
  • Kids eat free deals are generally 1 kid entree per each adult entree.
  • Many amusement park rides only sit 4 in a single 'cart'. This allows everyone to have the experience together.
  • Most 'family packs' of tickets to entertainment, sports, vacations, etc are for....you guessed it... a family of 4.

Anyhow, you see where I am going with this. Don;t get me wrong, I love my family of 5.... it's what I grew up with. We all fit in a standard rent-a-car... I am thankful for that. Any larger and we're renting a minivan. lol

We need to balance what is good for the world with spreading our genes.

Mind you for some people, one wonders if the best thing that they can do for the rest of us is not to spread their genes.

It depends on the family. I am happy with one for a myriad of reasons. I also agree with the poster that said to cap it at 2 because that will prevent even more population growth (it's just that 2 is not for me personally).

For me, the answer is 2. I don't know if I'll ever get married and have kids, but if I do, I want a set of twins. That was always the American dream for me, to have a boy and a girl I wouldn't want just one child, and with myself having 2 siblings, I think anything over 3 kids is a bit much. But some people can handle and want 5 or so kids. More power to them!

I too used to think having twins would be cool but after I had my first I was so happy it was a singleton. A baby is a lot of work. I can't imagine having 2 at once.
