Mount Pleasant is in Edinboro, other than that you have to travel to Peak N Peek or Holiday Valley.

With lake effect snow, the amount of snow can vary hugely over short distances. Edinboro proper gets some of the heaviest lake effect snow in Erie County. The higher elevations in eastern Erie County also get a lot.

Default ?

We are moving to Erie from Utah and heard that there is snowboarding nearby. We were stoked! Are you saying the snow isn't good in PA?

snow is nothing like in utah, thats drier continetal snow, but lake effect snow is different than easter snow say that falls in other areas of pa, first off its drier because its lake effect snow, second most snow in pa is usually wet, snow in the rocky mtn region is often considered the best for snow sports but in recent years the mtns of colorado and utah have been in a nasty snow drought very mild on up to 12k feet with temps in the 40s and 50s, past few winters parts of colorado on the front range and plains are actually getting more snow than the mtn areas kinda weird, i dont think its that global warming hog wash but earths climate goes through phases and the western mtns def in a bad snow drought, denver getting as much snow as somewhere at say 9 or 10 thousand ft is crazy....denver is only 5200 over sea level u wud think they wud be getting far less snow idk....lake effect belt is gonna do atleast 140 or so inches a winter and in good winters has done as much as 400'' in upstate NY!!!!!!

Lake effect snow is indeed dry and powdery, more like western U.S. snow. I don't know if it's as good for snow sports as western snow, since I'm not a skiier.

Default 4wd

Because we are coming from UT, we are pretty comfortable driving in the snow. We have an all wheel drive car. Do you think a 4WD is mandatory? Or will we be okay with our trusty old Subaru?
