They were never fun people. I don't know; I guess they could be happy, but I can't see how. Certainly odd to say the least...

I now live 40 miles from DC. I've been to the city exactly 3 times in 30 years. I did work one summer at Rock Creek Park so I'm not counting that.

I'm happy. And most of my friends consider me fun. Your glasses have blinders formed by your likely limited experience.

My limited experience, what? I've been to DC before. Why would I not tour Washington, D.C.? Your post is relatively irrelevant to not going on vacations. We didn't want to know how many times you have been to DC. Now, over your overall vacation span, you have likely been to several places.

Although I personally don't know anyone as such but not ever leaving the town, let alone the state, you were born in is not unusual. Some of the places I ride through look frozen in time.

I was using an example. And again, you continue to make blanket statements. Your visiting DC has nothing to do with the topic in which you've branded people who don't go somewhere on trips as not fun, unhappy and living an unhealthy lifestyle.

The previous post, however, did not go to waste due to the fact that I wasp pointing out that we need to stick to the topic of leaving state, and if you live in DC, then you've probably been to several different states. Virginia and Maryland, especially... Yes, but in my experience, actual individuals who haven't left their state (ever, or at least in a long time) tend to live that way.

People who rarely leave the state, sure. But only a very, very, very select few have never left the state at all.

I did once meet a woman on Somerset who had never been to Pittsburgh, so it would seem to follow that there's a decent chance she's never left the Commonwealth.

Get in touch with her, and find out so we can give OP his answer.

It was a 30-second conversation with a cashier at a convenience store off the Turnpike. I would bet good money that she still works there, though.

*high-five for that one* (lol)

You brought up a great point. Many times, when I do travel to the same place, I feel like I'm meeting the same people. I think this calls for a survey.

Most people in my neck of the woods grew up going to the Jersey Shore -- an easy day trip. So even if you never went anywhere else, at least that got you out of state.

I met a woman once in England, who only lived an hour or so from London but had never been there. Couldn't imagine that! But there are those that are perfectly content right where they are.
