Corbett not welcome at labor day for supporting private wine sales (school district, taxi)

In dismissing Corbett this year, Shea has mentioned the governor's support for privatizing state-run wine and spirit stores, which employ about 3,500 union clerks. Corbett said his support of privatized liquor stores is not anti-union but pro-consumer.

For libertarian, "Club for Growth" type ideologs like the Commonwealth Foundation, privatizing the state liquor monopoly is a high priority. I for one don't care if a bunch of alcoholics and wine snobs have to pay a bit more for their ethanol fix.

What I would really like to see is what Tom Ridge promised but then reneged on: a referendum on local municipal bond proposals and a statewide ballot initiative. PA is now the only state, which does not grant its citizens a mandatory vote on whether a local school district or municipality can issue municipal bonds. These entities can stick the local taxpayers with big future tax bills to pay bond interest and principal and all that is required is an "Act 34" hearing in the high school gym or auditorium to explain what the bonds are meant for.

privatization is supported by the majority of the state. although it's baffling to me that there are people like you in existence (people that think that everyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic or that being the only state with such assbackwards rules is somehow acceptable), the reality is that allowing statewide ballot initiatives would allow things like wine privatization to pass since the reason it can't pass is the fact that residents come last.
more to the point, union households also support privatization according to a franklin and marhsall survey so your club for growth mumbo jumbo is nothing more than a pack of lies. the reality is it's irrelevant whether it shuold be a priority, there is simply no reason why corbett should be considered anti-union simply for supporting alcohol liberalization.

he's a bad leader for sure but the reality is we still have a backwards system over 80 years after the end of prohibition that is comparable only to the theocracy of utah. that isn't his fault alone, it's the fact that the legislators simply do not care about what the people of the state want. in this case, corbett has put a lot of union workers to work both in transportation and in the refining business in SEPA. as strange as it may seem on the surface, it seems fairly dishonest for him not to be invited simply for supporting what most people in the state want just because 3500 public union members oppose it.

Except for the landmark transportation funding package that he managed to move through a legislature made up of tea partiers that view him as a liberal or union hack Democrats who view him as an anti-middle class conservative. Quite a feat if you ask me.

I think that's an important point and not just about the transportation bill. He's made a lot of unpopular decisions politically but that doesn't mean they were the wrong decisions.

They are hammering him on the school funding and the gas tax but when you know the facts you realize those attacks are baseless. The education funding cuts came under Rendell and the gas tax is actually on franchise's which of course will be passed onto the consumer but you won't hear the Democrats say that when they discuss taxing the natural gas industry.

We need more politicians like him on both sides of the aisle and then perhaps we can start moving this state and country forward.
