I live in a home in the city that I inherited from my father. I live only on a disability income and want to stay in the home. The home is paid for but needs major repairs (roof, mold mediation, plumbing repairs and gas duct replacements). My credit is fair. I don't know who I can turn to to help me with the cost of repairs so that I can stay in the property. I never owned a house before so any advice or referrals to non profit groups or government agencies who can help me would be greatly appreciated.

Rebuilding Together

Try this, they replaced Christmas in April. I'm sure Reading has a branch.

He may not be old enough for a reverse mortgage. A Home Equity line of credit might be one solution, though.

Don't get overwhelmed until you get some quotes. Roofs aren't super expensive on smaller houses. If the roof isn't leaking, you might be able to wait a year. Even on a fixed income, you should start saving $100/month so you have money for any home repairs that arise. If you can't save $100/month, you can't afford to pay back a loan.

Plumbing repairs aren't expensive unless it's the sewer line. Mold can usually be dealt with on your own unless it's severe. I have no idea how extensive the gas duct replacement is for your home, but it could be something reasonable.

As far as service in the area for low income homeowners, check this out:

Contact your county or city housing office. They often have resources that they can refer you to.
