As of December 2014, there are 5,098,200 private-sector jobs in Pennsylvania, which is the most there's ever been. Total jobs are still 12,000 down from their all-time high in April 2008, though, due to a large decrease in government jobs since then. Year over year, Pennsylvania added 54,200 jobs in December, which is pretty solid. Unemployment has fallen below 5.0% as well; it's now down to 4.8%, which is the lowest it's been since March 2008. Pennsylvania has essentially recovered from the most recent recession at this point, at least in the private sector.

Around Harrisburg and even south central PA in general things have been better for a while. Glad to see the rest of the state starting to do better.

I'm just glad to see that 2013 was an aberration instead of the start of a new trend.

I wouldn't break out the champagne yet. This is a preliminary number; the revised numbers for December and the rest of 2014 won't be available until early March.

I do agree that this year has definitely been better, but the magnitude of the improvement could be different once the updated numbers come out.

Still a little concerned over the increasing reliance on eds and meds but it's good to see positive numbers again
