Summit Health and JGBLI, which is redeveloping the former Fort Ritchie military base, entered into an agreement Thursday afternoon.

Containing few specifics, the agreement envisions partnerships to provide health services in primary care, clinics and urgent care; internships for future medical students; and opportunities to incorporate Eastern medicine such as acupuncture.

I'm surprised that Summit is doing this, to be honest. Usually healthcare stops at state lines. Perhaps recent executive orders and Congressional legislation have made that less of an issue. At any rate, this will be Summit Health's first foray into Washington County and the state of Maryland. I'm curious as to why Washington County's native healthcare system, Meritus, didn't beat Summit to the punch at Cascade Town Centre.

I wouldn't think so. Summit is just becoming a partner in helping to develop what is basically going to be a resort and university town. Have you ever seen the former Fort Ritchie site (where all of this will be built)? It's gorgeous! The South Korean firm plans hotels, a resort, a winery, shops and restaurant, and university and medical facilities for the site. Homes will be built on the site as well. When done, it should be a massive boost for the local economy!
