Hi all I’m A recent Excelsior RN grad/Paramedic And I’m Thinking of moving to Pennsylvania. My question is where is a reasonable place to live that will not tax us to death, has Affordable housing or apartments, decent schools, and crime that’s not to bad. Also my oldest daughter is Transsexual so a place that would be safe and possibly tolerant of her would be of the highest priority. Thank you in advance for your help everyone.

Philly suburbs would be the best option, but look into the east shore suburbs of Harrisburg (Dauphin County). Good schools, affordable housing and probably the most tolerant area of the state outside of Philly. The GLBT community is very strong here.

As a gay young person myself, I'd advise against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. Yesterday's major PrideFest celebration in Wilkes-Barre, which I did not attend due to a scheduling conflict with work, actually drew protesters, and police had to be called in to keep the peace. I'm not a fan of the whole "we're here, we're qu*er, get used to it" movement either as more of a socially conservative gay person, but they weren't harming anyone. I'm going to start organizing throngs of people to protest childrens' programs at local churches and see how THEY like it!

York county has tons of opportunist for you Career wise. You would be in driving distance of Harrisburg, Hershey, Baltimore and Washington all major medical places here in Pa. I think tax wise you may want to consider Adams or Cumberland county.Housing in Cumberland county is very affordable. As for your daughter I feel that Harrisburg and or York city all seem to attract younger and more versatile crowds. It is a different world we live in today. I just feel she would be a bit more happy in a city setting then in a farm community just because Older people just do not understand todays world.
