According to the government's 2004 stats....

State: Poverty Rates / median household income
Pennsylvania 11.2% / $43,714
North Carolina 13.8% / $40,863
Florida 11.9% / $40,900
Tennessee 15.0% / $38,945
Arizona 14.6% / $43,696
Texas 16.2% / $41,645
Georgia 13.7% / $42,679

According to the 2004 stats, is Pennsylvania really that bad compared to the warm weather trendier states?

I hate statistics....and this is a ture example of why. Pennsylvania is a really big state. These figures mean nothing.

Just curious as to why state averages "mean nothing"?

You do realize that if Pennsylvania being a large state is the reason why, then Texas and Florida are both larger.

Basically, Pennsylvania on the whole has a nice standard of living with lower rates of poverty and higher incomes than many of the states that are trendier.

Ahhh yes, they deny everything and say the statistics mean nothing. Classic PA denial. Interesting stats you got there. That about sums it up.

What about crime, school performance, weather, suicide rates, drug use or cost of living.

Default I agree- need more info

I agree, an entire breakdown comparing state to state or city to city would mean much more.

Whats the point anyway to the start of this thread? In my opinion PA is a huge state with many great areas and many not so great. But i guess thats like anywhere else.

Pennsylvania .061
North Carolina .067
Florida .05
Tennessee .072
Arizona .075
Texas .062
Georgia .062

They mean nothing because it depends on where you live in that state.
Yes, I do realize that Texas and Fla. are large states...but you did post this in the Pa. forum, and that's where I live. I live near some real poor areas, and not far from some real rich areas, so making a statistic of the state as a whole doesn't say much.
