Hi Becca,
Some very good info! Sorry, I was about as clear as mud with the rural vs closer to town comment. He would be happy living in a cabin on the Allegheny (sp) in Tidioute. And in many ways, that would suit me just fine. But we are getting older and I think maybe it would make more sense to live just a little closer to a town. Closer to hospitals, have a neighbor or two, that type of thing. Not be quite so isolated. We live out in the "middle of nowhere" now. I love it but it is about 45 min to 1 hour to get anywhere- even the grocery store!

Honestly, I don't know anything about Sheffield. I thought it might be a place for us to look at. I haven't heard any great comments about it though, so maybe we should stay in Venango.

there are certain areas of oil city and franklin that are "run down" but other areas that are just beautiful, the whole area is not that large so being " in town" and out side town are not far away. I do not mean to scare you but the game commision just had to dart a bear in "down town" franklin the other day. Not a common occurance but wooded areas are really near everywhere. If you do relocate , this is a great place to fly fish. if you are interested in learning my cousin used to guide and is a fanatical fly fisherman and really knows what he is doing. I am sure he would be willing to show you some things as he is a teacher by profession. let me know if you are interested!

Hey, don't forget West Hickory, between Tionesta and Tidioute, there is a bar there. Used to be two. Tionesta does have (all these little places have distributor) a beer distributor and liquor store.

Why not give Leeper a try? It's not far from Clarion, Oil City and Tionesta on the famous Route 66. It's a nice little community with a great sense of family!

Leeper also has a flea market on the weekends in the summer

Sheffield and Clarendon both have a grocery store. Warren has 3 and from Sheffield it is a 15-20 minute drive.

I love this whole are due to how rural it is. Lots of streams and fishing opportunities. Tionesta Creek, Blue Jay Creek, Allegheny River, Allegheny Reservoir at Kinzua Dam, Nebraska Bridge, Buzzard Swamp and many many others.

I'm partial to Marienville. It's a nice little town with a small grocery store, a few restaurants and they actually have good jobs if you can get a job at the new prison.
It's not a far drive to Brookville, Clarion, Warren, Leeper or Kane.

Marienville has a good candidate for weirdest intersection in the state - and for PA, that's saying something. Prison doesn't rank much higher than casino on my list of desired local attributes, though.
