My brother-in-law is heading to Chicago from NJ thru Fwy 80 and will need to stop one night somewhere, hopefully, there are nice places, to check out, on the way over to Chicago.

Any idea or suggestions? Or should he just drive all the way pass PA and stay at Cleveland OH ?

A nice town with comfortable hotles may be as important as safety ...

Almost any exit along I-80 will offer several choices in motels and inns. He could just drive until he starts to feel that he wants to stop for the night and see what's available.

It's about 12 hours from central PA to Chicago, though, so he may want to get further alone in his trip before stopping, perhaps somewhere in mid-Ohio.

Once he crosses into Ohio, 80 will become the turnpike through ohio. I would spend the night between Sharon, Pa. and Austintown, Ohio. Look at a map of Ohio. You will be looking for routes 46, 76, and 80 all coming together. Plenty of choices there. It's also a good safe area. I would shy away from Belmont Avenue, which is before Austintown.

Thanks for the info (I clicked you positive!)

Now, if he left on 9pm and may be drive a few hours on I-80, at what time hotel can still check in?

If he drove all the way to mid-Ohio the first night, it may be dawn already. right?

Somehow, I only saw a BB at Sharon PA Sharon Accommodations: Read Reviews for Inns and B&Bs in Sharon - TripAdvisor

and Austintown OH has more Austintown Hotels: Compare Austintown, OH Hotel Rates and Reviews - SideStep

But, Youngstown OH has dozen which is great! Youngstown Hotels: Read Youngstown Hotel Reviews and Compare Prices - TripAdvisor

Iv'e driven from PA. to Chicago numerous times and with the motels along 80 have never had a problem checking in in the middle of the night. Sometimes you have to stop at a few if their full.

There should be no problem finding a motel room in the Cleveland area. It is about 7 - 8 hours from Cleveland to Chicago, depending on a lot of variables, like exactly where he is staying and going to, how fast he drives, how fast of service he gets when he stops, etc.

I drive Pittsburgh - South Bend, IN for work, I'd put Cleveland to Chicago at 5.5 hours w/ light-normal traffic, closer to 7 in high traffic.

As far as hotels off of 80, I would recommend the Sharon area as well. Also check the Dubois area, I believe there are a few hotels in that area.

I also was going to suggest DuBois. It's a little over half way through PA and it's where I-80 intersects with US-219. They have hotels, motels & restaurants and it's a safe area.
