My husband's health has declined significantly since we moved here. He has already had chemotherapy and radiation for cancer. In addition, he is confused most of the time and doesn't remember how to do the simplest of things, such as laundry, dishes or vacuuming. He asks me several times a day where the bedroom is, where the kitchen is, etc. We can't really afford a cleaning person or someone to help around the house. We do have a man that cuts our grass because my husband cannot do that! I am 64 years old and my husband is 85 years old. We have been married for 38 years and have 5 children, but our closest family is 680 miles from us! After discussing it with our children, we have decided the best course is for us to move to the city where our daughter lives so she can help me with her dad. We have lived in a lovely house for the past 2 years. We will have to break out lease to move. I am unsure of our rights in this case. I'm really worried because we don't have much money and cannot pay a lot of fees. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thank you so very much!!

Short term, call the Area Agency on Aging:

Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging

They can sometimes help you find caregiving assistance at no cost or with very small co-pays.

If you have lived there for 2 years in most cases there is no lease.

After one year many leases go month to month.

Read you lease.

Also, you can send a certified letter to your landlord explaining the medical issues etc and if you have been a good renter a decent landlord after 2 years would not frown on letting it go.

It all depends on what is in your lease.

Do you remember renewing your lease after the 1st year?
