Hello All on this Sunny Day! We currently live in Venice and are considering places north (north west) area of Florida to move to. Pensacola has really mixed opinions...I know Destin is very nice, SanDestin, and that area but can anyone recommend an area to check out that is maybe comparable to Venice??

Thanks Bunches!!

Gulf Breeze is nice and property is much less than Destin.

Pensacola is south alabama.

Its dominated by southern culture (Religious) Republicans, Military, etc.

Not a place I would live.

Pensacola is a lovely town full of military pride for our great nation. I like Gulf Breeze. My preference would be Destin but it is pricey. I don't think any of the towns in the pan-handle have the same feel as Venice. Good luck on your search. Try and stay away from all those awful religious people like me. We are quick to lend a hand and support you. We are such bad neighbors too. Always watching out for you. Run, quickly to a neighborhood where the people hate the government and God.

This!!!!! I'm surprised TD* didn't recommend Tallahassee, he seems to work for their Chamber of Commerce.

Sad that TD apparently dislikes all of the military folk that have previously and currently defend our freedom and way of life. Personally I have found that most military people are some of the nicest and friendliest neighbors you will find. Yes NW Florida is more conservative than some other areas of the country and if that bothers you then please look elsewhere.

Sounds like our kind of place. Make room for two more.

Since many, including myself, have no knowledge of Venice, can you be more specific about what you're looking for or not looking for in an area?

Nothing against Destin, Ft Walton or Gulf Breeze but you must remember that these communities sit on the coast and we just had a big scare with hurricane Irma. When hurricane Ivan hit over 10 years ago, home not only along the coast but in Pensacola got hit very hard. Today you would never guess that Ivan even took place but to me the damage looked like someone had carpet bombed condos on Pensacola beach and it took years to recover.

For me I decided that if I want to go to the beach it's not a negative to drive an hour to get there so I'm inland a bit north of Pace that's outside of any evacuation zone. Note that this is not to say that houses in this area are immune to damage from the winds. the rain and tornados but I worry less here than I think I would living right on the coast.

Amen to that. I've had to bail out of a car and take cover on the interstate because we were driving right into the path of a tornado. We survived the tornado and so did the car but I drove another 60 miles and hit a deer so mudbug is correct.... If Nature's looking for you there is no place to hide.
