Absolutely! - We moved to Destin from the East Coast (Melbourne/Satellite Beach) and find that the Panhandle is an average of 15-degrees cooler in the winter. That's why many refer to it as "L.A." (lower Alabama), rather than Florida.

It doesn't bother me at all. I look forward to it all summer. It's supposed to be 28 tomorrow night.

I moved from Kansas to Destin. I laughed at the "winters". I suppose it's all perspective.

I was surprised at how much colder the FL Panhandle is than South FL when I lived in the state. I worked one year in Miami and used to go back to Tallahassee. One day it must have been about 78F in Miami. I drove up to Tallahassee and it was about 42F. The worst I saw was in about the high teens around five-six years ago in Panama City. My F-150 truck door froze shut. That is the only time I saw that happen in my 13 years of living in Florida - lol.

In general, NW Florida is mild in comparison to northern states. But relative to South FL it is much colder.
However, I have been living in NM the past several months and drove up to Colorado twice for job interviews. It is much colder up that way. They had a snow storm a couple of weeks ago that was absurdly cold. I'm going to Phoenix tomorrow - lol.

It can get really cold in Central FL on infrequent occasions. One year the Disney Marathon was in the 20s - very unusual.

Winter in the panhandle is a joke. If it gets below 40 people freak out.

RE: Destin

Although I liked it very much near the beach, I thought of purchasing a home there, so I began to peruse the area away from the beach, and found people to be hostile to strangers, not friendly at all, and much less educated that the ones by the town.....we are White and from New York City......

And if there is a very slight chance for winter precip they really hype it up!! We did have an ice storm in 2014(?) that shut down everything for 3 days, but thats as rare as is snow on the ground.
I lived in Ft Laud one yr, I could'nt stand the hot temps all year. I enjoy the season change in the panhandle. When it does get cold here, below 35° it usually doesnt last more than a few days.
I live near Crestview, I 10 exit 56 & enjoy it here. Its very humid here from April to Oct but u learn to adapt, like work outside b4 3pm when its the highest temp/humidity.
Traffic is terrible in Crestview due to the AF moving more people into Eglin AFB but theres a way around the traffic.

That ice storm back in 2014 was nice, I enjoyed every bit of it. It got down to 14F at my house.
