we are desperately looking to make contact with a homeless Veteran who is registered at a mission in Chicago. We sent letters (some came back, at least 2 he received) but he didn't contact us. Which we kind of understand since we are in Germany.
Short story:
He was stationed in Germany as a GI and got married to a german woman. He was "deported" (Germans don't use that word - but that is what they did) after his wife died. Since he didn't have the german citizenship he couldn't get custody of his own daughter (DOB 1986). After he had to leave she was put up for adoption. Of course he lost all contact. When he came home there was nothing left there for him. The little family he had were deceased and he ended up in the streets. We can understand if he feels ashamed of that, but there is no reason for that. His daughter loves him dearly and wants to get in contact with him.
We already sent emails to all kind of shelters and institutions where he might go to (with little to no response) and asked for help. We sent out flyers and hope that they were posted on message boards or so. Little do we know if that is even done.
Does anybody have an idea? It is getting cold again and he has to be sleeping somewhere. Please let me know, what else we could do.
His name is Eddie Reece, he is african-american and was born in 1954.
Please, any kind of info is greatly appreciated. Janel wants to have her dad back in her life.

I live in Charlotte, N.C. They have a men's homeless shelter. They keep a list of all the names of the men there, they have to be in by a certain time of night and be out looking for work by a certain time. They do not come and go as they wish.
They are offered jobs doing casual labor. If the local arena needs to be cleaned up after a weekend event, they'll drive by the mission-shelter and pick up as many workers at they need, so these guys do have money.
I doubt her Father is penny less and unable to buy a stamp to Germany.
Have you called: the mission in Chicago.
Not all biological parents desire to know their kids. I hope this is not the case for Janel, but she needs to consider it as a possibilty.
I know that not all want to know their kids. But he already was a part of her life and he fought to stay here. What I think is that he is ashamed, he might believe that he has nothing to offer etc...
No, the mission where he is registered does not keep a log of who caomes and goe. I already talked to the security man there. He was very helpful with his info. So we call every once a while and have Eddie paged. So far he was never there. Maybe we get lucky now when the weather is cold (and I know CHI is cold now) and he goes to a local shelter.
He is not retired Military so he doesn't get any benefits from VA or so. He simply got out of the Army and worked on the German economy until he was "deported".
It's possible he has moved to another state/place and/or not homeless anymore. When was the last time you verified he was at that mission? Do you have a middle name or initial. I found an Ed Clyde Reece (57 years old) in North Carolina.
Thanks for your help!!!
I talked to the mission a couple weeks ago. He was still listed there and had picked up mail.
He does not have a middle initial. We know he is in CHI...we just can't get a hold of him to talk to him. The mission doesn't keep a log either. So now, since it's really getting cold there we hope to have a better chance.
