Geert,
I may have located the last name for the granddaughter of Carl Roberts as of 1989. I'll send it to you. I hope this effort has been of value to you as we got a chance to communicate with a few nice people who were glad to be of help.

Hello Howard,

Thank you very much for your effort. I'll write her a letter.
When I receive info from her, I'll let you know.

Thank you for everything, you're a truly good man.

Geert

My name is Geert De Backer. I'm from Belgium, Europe.
A few weeks ago I adopted the grave of U.S. Sgt. Carl W. Roberts at the

As from now, it's my duty to look after him (put beautiful flowers on
Memorial Day, Nov. 11th, etc...) Carl W. Roberts growed up in Willoughby, Ohio.
He was only child of Mr. & Ms. Cutler and Cora Roberts. He followed the Willoughby
High School and was active in few some organizations...
Carl worked at the "Standard Tire & Rubber Company". He signed in for
duty May 7, 1917. He married Gladys Lynn on Sept.12, 1917.
She was expecting a daughter when Carl was killed in action November 1918.
Carl was assigned at the 145th Inf. Regiment, 37th Division. After a few
months, he became Sergeant.

I'm hoping to find some information about my soldier. Maybe there are still some relatives in Willoughby?!
If you can help me, please do not hesitate to contact me. Perhaps your
newspaper can make a nice story of this Adopt-a-Grave Program?!

Many thanks.
