Do you mean Berżniki which is today within the borders of Poland? Was in the Russian Empire prior to WW1. Coordinates 54°05' N, 23°28' E
22 miles E of Suwałki, 5 miles ESE of Sejny, near the modern Poland-Lithuania border

If the family was Jewish than this site gives info on the cemetery (there's nothing left.)
