This is a long shot, I know, but what the heck? Ya never know, do you?
I'm looking for a guy named Harold Brown, a black man who would now be in his late 50's or early 60's. For the first month or so of my tour in Vietnam, we were hootch-mates. We served in the second platoon of Co. C, 2/1 Infantry, 196th Light Infantry Brigade during 1970-71.
Harold was originally from one of the Carolinas and, at that time, had a couple of years of college working on a math degree. I don't know if he ever finished that as we lost contact after the war.
About a year ago, a man by that name posted on the guestbook of the 196th BDE website. He said he's served with C 2/1 in 1970-71, so it had to be the Harold Brown I'd like to find. He did not leave any contact information at all and, so far, has not come back to the website. He listed his home as San Leandro, CA.
I've called every Harold Brown in the east bay phone books, and every one listed as "H" something or other Brown. No luck. I haven't even found anyone who knows him.
Anyone here who might know Harold Brown from San Leandro?

Thanks for the tip, but I've been on Facebook and Myspace already. It's astonishing how many black men there are out there whose name is Harold Brown. There are hundreds of them! And, not having seen "my" Harold for nearly 40 years, it's easy to look at the pictures and say, "That might be him."
Ironically, I'm having the same problem with other black soldiers I served with. They bear names such as Tom Johnson, Joe White, Robert Richardson. People with common names are much, much harder to find, especially when you don't know where they might be. Forty years is a long time and they may have gravitated to any place on the globe or even be dead.
But, I'll keep going.
Poppy: I tried that number but haven't gotten an answer yet. Thanks.

Still no answer during the day, but I did get an answer Friday night: "No anglis." LOL
