can the collector report $200 dollars five times for one bill they have it listed as $40 dollars five times

If it is one single account for $200 then they cannot split the dollar amount up and report it that way.

If it is for five separate accounts of $40 each then they can report each account.

If its a doctor or a similar creditor and you went 5 times and each bill was $40 and your total was $200. You see this as a $200 bill when in actuality it is 5 separate bills for $40 each with the same creditor.

the total bill is 200 and they report it as 5 collections on my credit report of 40 dollars each for the same bill

File a complaint against them with your state attorney general's office. There is probably an online form to do so at your state AG's website.

Yes, they can report it that way. That's if EACH 40 dollars was it's own contract/bill- with a distinct account #.

If it was originally one bill, I'd dispute all five charges.
