Mint.com, now owned by Intuit, is free. It is excellent.

I actually signed up for Mint, but it seems like you have to hook up to your online accounts and i don't want to. Am i wrong about that?

Yes you do, don't believe there is anyway around that. And I trust them waaaay more than having the info on a computer. The level of encryption is extremely high. Most people do their taxes online with Turbotax...guess who makes Turbotax? Intuit.

I was skeptical at first, but I was glad I did it. Keep in mind to get the most out of it you have to hook everything up, but if you just use say a credit card to make all your purchases (like we do) you can get 95% of the benefit of Mint by just linking your credit card.

It will download all the transactions and you can set a budget based upon that. It's incredible really, the amount of info at your fingertips.

It's got a slight learning curve but after that it's great.

I will also give my two cents about Mint - I love it. I understand not wanting to link it up to all of your accounts, but like the previous poster said, it's completely encrypted. I've been using it for almost 2 years and never have had an issue with it. I love the budgeting and goals function. You should def check it out.

According to Microsoft: "The category of personal financial-management software has changed considerably in the 17 years since Money was first established. As more users shift their attention to full-service offerings provided by banks and brokerages, demand for a comprehensive personal finance toolset has declined."

I only use my online banking to keep track of my savings accounts and i still use my checkbook register to balance my accounts to the penny. Thanks for your help.
In case you aren't aware, there is limited support from Microsoft Money (while the program is no longer available, there is support through 2011). It also appears to depend on the software version.
