I'm not quite 30, Medically retired from the Corps, and back in school.
I will have a Paid for house and Masters Degree by 30, I'll end up working 'in the rat race' for a couple years, but after 8 years 'working for the man' I have no interest in doing so anymore.
As soon as the resume and contacts are built up enough I'm going to 'pull the plug' and do contract work.
My Goal is 4-6 months of work per year by the time I'm 40.
(Hopefully much sooner)
Doubt I'll ever totally 'quit working' I've had WAY too much time on my hands (Couple years of surgeries...) and I just want enough work to make me appreciate my time off. (I call it "Work optional" Rather than 'Retirement')
I have no debt, never had debt, enjoy nice things, but know that there's more to life than money.
(As soon as I've got a 'real job' again my military retirement is going to become 'investment money' for the next 30 years... so I'll be Ok then, just have to make it through the intervening years)
Finishing school in early 20's and retiring at 30 to spend the next 50 or so years retired makes me wonder why bother going to school and working less than 10 years in the first place when you could just go on welfare right from the get go and not have to waste time going to school or working for almost 10 years, they tell me these welfare people have it real easy with plenty of entitlements and just about everything they need is free.
On a more serious note it would have to be one heck of a job to be able to work less than 10 years and have the income from the job support your retired life for the next 50yrs.

Bascailly I retired at 52. No way I was going to keep working contract work afterthat even tho was offfered it when I annouced retiremnt. That is retirng at all its more lie many carpaenters and other people who work foreign I've known for years. the problem is they never really accumulated enough to finally retire. They planned to but never was able to do it wroking 6 mos a year.I don't see it has a practical plan especaily in professional job. 6 mos is a longtime in leaving self employed contract wrok.
