I have an agreement plan with the IRS where i send about 500 a month to cover some taxes i owe. I have a stupid question about the statement i received. On the statement, i says monthly payment due by June 17. Does this mean that i can send a payment with a post mark before the June 17 or do i have to send it earlier and get it there by friday since the 17 is a sunday. If they do receive monday, am i consider a day late?

I am pretty sure it has to be postmarked.. but why push it? Go into a Tax office and make the payment on the 15th.. they wont cash your check until the 18th or 19th any way.

i am like $100 dollars short..So i dont know what i should. I could send them a check now so they get a partial payment by friday and then send another check or i can mail it on friday when i get my paycheck. Only problem with friday is it will be post marked with friday date and they may not get it until after tuesday-wednesday..hmm

I can't speak specifically for your situation, but most creditors expect payment on or before the due date. They couldn't care less about the postmark date on your payment.

I'd say they want it on or before the 17th. You could call to make sure and maybe even make an arrangement. It's worth mentioning that in many cases, if you happen to miss a payment, they won't necessarily terminate the plan. Especially not if you call them and explain the situation to them.

Payments to the IRS are mailed to a POB specific to your area. The local offices do not accept payments. They have to be mailed.

Use your bank's online billpay, but be sure to put the tax form # and your SSN in the memo section for what you are paying.

If it's a day late, it won't be a big deal. If you stretch it too far, though, it will be a problem. I have had payment arrangements with the IRS before and they actually are not bad to deal with. If the 17th is Sunday and they get it on Monday, it will be fine. They won't cancel your payment agreement because it's one day late.

And they do cash the checks right away.
