There was a discussion on CNBC the other day, that there are people in Washington who want to get rid of $1.00 bills.

One argument for this was the ease with which someone could pay for a parking meter. A $1.00 coin replaces quarters and nickels, if parking meters even take nickels or dimes any more.

I'd rather have five $1.00 bills in my wallet than 5 dollar coins in my pocket.

When my tires need air, the machines take 75 cents. A dollar coin won't help me there.

In fact, a dollar coin might cause the cost of some things to go up.

There are soda machines where a soda cost 75 cents. Maybe a $1 coin causes the vendors to raise the price to $1.00.

Many purchases require coins. Many grocery stores have self checkout lines. Coins are needed as well as bills. If your total is $13.73 cents, would $1 coins help that much?
Simpler to insert a $10 bill and a $5 bill, or a $20 bill, and get change back.
Or instead of a 10 and 4 singles, you'd need a $10 and 4 dollar coins.

For it. Dollars are worn out and taken out of circulation quickly -- going to coins would save us money in the long run.

Haven't we been down this road before? Few people are equipped to actually carry COINS. If this is a push towards plastic I can see the logic, if not then it's never going to fly.

Complete confusion regarding these comments. What difference does having a dollar bill in your pocket instead of a dollar coin make in either of these purchases?

I would like to see one dollar and two dollar coins. It is a lot easier to handle than the bills. Plus, you do not have to go into your wallet.

I don't think the pole dancers will appreciate me making it hail versus making it rain...

Yes. Coins don't stink as much.

Spend a few days in England, where they have a one pound coin. Similar to the One Dollar bill in terms of frequency of use.

Trust me, you don't want a one dollar coin. They are heavy, and annoying to have in your pocket.

How many 'singles' do you have in your pocket right now? Five? Seven? Twelve?

Think about having that number of thick, heavy coins in your pockets jangling away. It is just aggravating.

The dollar bill folds nicely, doesn't weigh much, is easy to use, and accepted just about everywhere, whether it be cashiers, or vending machines.

Leave it alone. The gubment still has plenty of Susan B. Anthonys, and no-one wants them. There must be a reason.
