I was wondering how I can best find someone to look at our existing insurance policies. I used a Certified fee only financial planner years ago but he deals with people with more money than we have and was not very nice or helpful. We are lower middle income and over 60. Frugal but modest means.

Thank you.

Ask your planner. Many of them work with various agents and they can work on a team approach. You can also call some companies in your area and they can help you find someone. I would suggest either Northwestern Mutual or Massachusetts Mutual as they have remained strong through this financial crisis.

OP, what kind of insurance policies are you talking about? Life would be my best bet, but of course those aren't the only policies.

Whatever you have, make photocopies of the policies (covering up the name of the current insurance company and the premium amounts) and take them to 3 or 4 insurance agents who sell similar policies. Get quotes on what you have and ask if they would change anything. If you go to that many you should get a consensus as to the best direction to go.

Just keep in mind that, working on a commission as they do, they will likely be at least somewhat influenced by the potential commission they could receive.

I DO want to pay for each visit. I never said it is because he charges by the visit! Just the opposite.

I like your second comment, your suggestion to go to 3 or 4 different agents.

Oh, I am talking about life, not term either, but lifetime life. Thanks.
