I'm a 23 year old college student who gets paid through the military to attend college. I'm in the OT Assistant program at my local CC. I'm very bad with my money and I'm looking for advice on how to stretch out the $700 I get each month. I don't party as much as I used to but I always seem to run out of money by around the 21st of the month. Breaking it down what all would you spend the $700 on if it was you?
My car is paid off and my phone runs about $70 followed by insurance which is around $125. Those are the only expenses I have. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
If you don't have any other expenses what are you spending your money on?
Clothing? School supplies? Meals at school? Gas? Haircut? You have about $500 left over--maybe we need to know more about your spending habits, like what are you currently spending money on.
No rent, free food, free medical insurance, no utilities besides the cellphone?
Seriously, exceedingly easy. Start by figuring out where you're spending your other $405 a month. Bars are expensive, you could blow through that going out very easily.
Doing some math you have only $500 left per month. If you pay everything with Debit / charge card. look at the statement and you'll see where it is going. If you are paying with cash, you need to put yourself on a weekly budget and only pull out $80 a week. If you have a car, chances are you are spending a bit on gas. Get a receipt for everything and put in in your wallet, you'll see where all of your money is going.
If you accept you are a starving student, your diet probably should include a lot of Rice, Ramen, Pasta.
At only only $700 a month, who is supporting your living expense?

^I agree completely with this.
I thought this was going to be related to a senior or single mother, or family...Onthego24, seriously, you need to get a grip on your financial habits now while you are still young. With $405 left over at every month you could easily be saving 1/2 of that every month for a tidy annual $2,400 in an investment, 401K, or savings account and the day will come when you will wish that you had.
Habits like drinking excessively, recreational drug use, and shopping for clothes unesccesarily will not help you reach your goals (I am in the hopes that if you're in an OT program at school...you have goals, don't you?) and become the outstanding citizen you desire to be.
Good luck and best wishes, sincerely, but get with the program of adult life.
