I only use my debit card at ATM's to get cash when needed. I did have one account online set to use that card (iTunes) but it got hacked and I was actually online, watching the money being taken from my checking account at 2am, it was several small transactions totaling just over $100 by the time I saw it.
Fortunately I was able to get in there and remove the card from that account, and it was going through PayPal and they were GREAT about getting my money back within 4-5 days. It was a fairly well known breach steaming back to the early days of iTunes, before serious security measures were in place and it's been upgraded now but I've learned my lesson.
It's way better to have charges on a credit card that I never have to pay than have to wait and document and fight to get my money BACK!
Yeah but what really, really turns me off about credit cards is that it's an accumulation of expenses that has to be paid off on a later date. So let's say that I spend $900 in everyday expenses for a month (groceries, clothes, miscellaneous, car maintenance, etc.). When it comes time to pay my credit card bill, I would have to assault my checking account for a whopping $900 all at once in order to pay off the credit card. This requires extra care and attention, which is undesirable. With a debit card, my checking account balance simply reflects each and every purchase and I don't have to worry about crap like timing, overspending, etc.
$120 a year in cash back is laughably negligible for someone like me who makes $90K.
Desirable or undesirable - it is a way of doing business for a lot of folks. I am one of them. One bill, one payment, the option to have a third party deal with issues.
If you can laugh at 120$ - do you want my mailing address?
Again - a friend said something and you took it at face value:>))) who knows what his function is an if he needs a couple of CCS to make his quota.
I disagree. The convenience of directly debiting your checking account simply cannot be matched by a credit card. Fraud issues are overrated.
This suggest to me that you have a hard time managing your budget. Paying a bill daily out of your checking acct daily or paying one bill once a month is the same thing and if you can't meet your obligations monthly then you lack financial discipline.
Another thing that sucks about credit cards is that you have to sign receipts all the time.
Another thing that sucks about debit cards is you have to enter your pin all the time.
OP gave me a good laugh today. $120 is above him because he makes 90k a year but has trouble budgeting a month end credit card payment. As if the money isn't comming out daily he'll overspend and not be able to payoff his/her credit card.
I'd much rather enter a trite 4-digit PIN than sign receipts.
