I've never used TurboTax so I can't compare the two, but I've been using TaxAct for several years now, and have no plans to change. I find it incredibly simple (I do have simple taxes though, so that's a factor!) and I like that it's all cloud based so i can do my taxes from either computer I may find myself on.

I have used TurboTax for years as the price has climbed from $10 to $75 to do the same thing. So this year was in the mood to blow them off and have downloaded H&R Block software. It imported my last years TurboTax data without problem and has imported data from my brokerage companies without any problem. I may just look for the lowest price software from now on.

I used turbo tax in the past but now that i have sale of stocks and 1099misc on top of multiple W-2's turbotax would of been around $60 and it used to be $35 to e-file my state return. I've used FreeTaxUSA for the past 2 years and it costs me $12.95 to do everything that I need to do including E-file.

I don't mind paying $25.00 more, but I needed the premier for rental properties etc... Still cheaper than having to pay someone, but I have the skills to do it myself.
