I can not believe the amount of people who, when this thread was first made, were making the argument that no credit cards and paying cash is the way to go. It's simply not, you're ignoring FREE money, yes FREE. I haven't used my Wells Fargo debit card to make a purchase in about 10 years, why would I? It offers me nothing. Paying cash? Offers you nothing. There are endless cards out there that offer cash back or miles if you like to travel. Every purchase I make goes on a cash back card and I get 1-6% back on everything I purchase. I haven't paid a penny in interest in at least 6 years yet have racked up hundreds and hundreds of dollars in cash back. If you understand the fact that you have to use the cards in a manner that unless you have the cash to backup the purchase you shouldn't buy it, it's essentially being paid to live your life.

Started out with 14, including 3 store cards. Now, I only have Discover IT, USAA Amex & CapOne Venture. I agree that the rewards make the cards hard to pass up.

I have a lot as I figure there's little need to close a credit line. At first interest rate was key when I was starting out. Later on, I started traveling a lot for work and benefits became key. As usage switched, I went to consolidate to cards that had the best benefits for what I used the most, but kept some for cash advances once in awhile. Now, my usage goes to cards with a mix of benefits and data. .csv files for the year are key.
