For you people with cheap internet is it actually quality? Can you watch youtube on the computer while someone is on netflix upstairs etc?
Depends what you mean.
720p video is streaming under 5 mbps. We have 50/5 service for $35/month via EarthLink, which is actually just a reseller for TWC, but around $10/month less. For us that is plenty.
Some people want faster speeds but it's not a need.

Yes. I generally live alone, but I'm having a friend stay at my place to help him get on his feet. I pay for 25/4 but get 50/5 roughly. We have no issues playing video games, watching youtube, etc. I generally watch movies downloaded from the internet anyways. It's also oddly cheaper for what you get in NYC vs NJ when it comes to internet.

There is nothing odd about that at all. NYC has extremely high population density. Beyond Time-Warner Cable (about to become Charter Communications) and Verizon, there are a half-dozen other competitors happy to sell you internet service if you live in a big highrise where they've dragged a fiber connection. In New Jersey, you typically are limited to either the local cable operator, typically Comcast but with bits of Cablevision, and Verizon. With Verizon, you might or might not have FIOS service depending on the affluence and population density of the zip code. If you can't get FIOS, you're using two tin cans and a string DSL technology. You're not going to have much luck with streaming video with a connection that slow.

I know that, it's more so that my rate is both higher in mb/s and cheaper than through the same company in NJ (Time Warner Cable). I'm pretty much stuck with TWC because I live in an older building that likely won't get fiber any time soon which is unfortunate, but I generally see no need to upgrade.
Better to have high speed Internet vs cable imo. I use a hi-Def antenna and get most of the network channels free!
We also have Netflix for $8.95 per mo.
You could save on your cell bill by going with a company that uses the Verizon network, you just need to order their Sims cards for your phones. I had page plus for awhile $30 with 1 gig data, and the service was good. Their website can walk you through the process.
Virgin mobile phones are about 35 a month, tracphone as low as 9 a month. I use att u verse fir internet and phone 94 a month. Forget the tv content. Unwatchable waste of money and time. Get an antenna and a tivo dvr. 15 a month. Just saved you 200 a month.
I had Cox for a year. Highway robbery. I was paying 350.00 a month for TV, home phone and Internet. Horrible customer service and they were going to raise my rates after a year to 450. I finally got Dish and I love it. Got the top 250 channels at 49.99. They give you all the pay channels free for 3 months. I decided to keep just Showtime and Cinemax. Still only paying 72.00 monthly. Would not switch for anything.
My Cable Bill for March was comical by Comcast, $425
