I read an article that I might be able to transfer a credit limit from one card to another but the catch is you can only do it within the same company.

I have a citi aadvantage card with a 10k limit and a citi double card with a 2500 limit. I'm hoping to close the aadvantage card and up the limit on the double card to 10k. The aadvantage card is paid off and I don't want to pay the $70 annual fee.

Just wondering if anyone here has attempted to do it and how common it is to request such a shuffling of credit.

Call Citi and request a credit limit increase for the Double card. Make no mention of the AAdvantage account.

I went to open a Chase Slate account (no annual fee and 0 balance transfer fees) from a promotion mailer I'd received. They had me transfer my limit from my Chase Marriott card 13K out of 28K to the Chase Slate Card. I am waiting to receive the chase slate card in the mail. In this instance I applied for the Chase Slate and the application process asked me to call them to combine my cards (I had 2 Chase Marriott cards before applying for the Chase Slate). Hope it helps...

I don't understand the purpose of transferring debt to another card. I have $3000 debt and I want to pay it off not transfer it to another card and possibly make it higher.

Credit limits aren't the same thing as a debt

Can you give me a reason why should I transfer my $3000 to another credit card?

For the most part when people transfer balances (debt), the interest rate will be lower so they are saving money each month while paying off their debt.

However the OP is referring to combining credit limits. For instance If I had two chase cards, one with a total credit limit of $10,000 and one with $5,000; chase would probably have no oroblem with combining the balances (15k) on one card and closing out one of them.

Well lower interest rates would be a reason but that's not what's being discussed what's being discussed is transferring credit limits not balances.

I'm sure your interest rate is at least 10%. So you're paying $25 a month in interest at least. If you applied for a Chase Slate card and transferred the balance you would pay zero interest on the debt for 18 months. This could save you some money.
