I lost access to my free TurboTax I've used for years (the insurer I'm with stopped giving it away). I was wary because so many are "free" until you try to file online then you get charged a significant amount.

Then I'd heard about Credit Karma - I've done their scores and so already had an account but didn't know they have a tax thing now. They did not import my TurboTax and it wasn't quite as easy as they were but by printing out last year's TurboTax I could check at various points for comparison.

It didn't take but about 30 minutes - I have the typical mortgage, interest, and charitable contributions but nothing needed for small business or stock transactions. The best part - NO charge to file online. So, something to check out if you don't have a complicated return! (I have no affiliations with Credit Karma).

I was wondering about this. Are both state and federal free with Credit Karma? I know you mentioned you don't have small business, but I do, so I wondered if this would be free as well (I have a single member LLC with very small revenue).

I used these guys this year. Got my Federal refund in 1 week, and state refund 1.5 week.

https://www.freetax.com/

Both Fed and State are totally free, and they e-file free also.

Yes - both federal and state were included with the free filing.

I think there is an FAQ on Credit Karma's website that may let you know about whether small business is covered.

I used them, and got my return back a few days ago. It took me about 20 minutes to walk through the process and I got my return in a week.

I use TaxAct, and it's free depending on your income.

I already filed my taxes using creditkarma. I highly recommend it. Very easy to use and fast.

Added by edit.

And no, I do not work for creditkarma. I use their service and that is the extent of my affiliation to them.
