Hello,

So this is the first year I've done my taxes on my own. I've always used my dads CPA because he was a pro and my dad owns his own business...so it was good for him. But now the guy charges me $200 so I said forget it.

I tested my 2007 return on TurboTax and HRBlock and they each were exact at 1500. Problem is, my tax guy only got me $800 back. BIG difference.

Is there any chance I can get this money back? Or is it too late?

As far as I've read HR Block simply reviews your 2007 tax for $30, but doesn't do anything else. I don't need a review of what I've already done.

I'm sure you can file amendments to your tax returns, I'm just not sure how far back.

The thing is, I didn't really change anything, I took my old 1040 and simply followed the directions and put in all my 1099 info etc....and it came back with more money.
I know I can change it somehow, but am confused because it seems like the numbers should be exact, but perhaps not.

I'll have to give H&R a call.

Obvious question: did you use the 2007 software, not the 2008 software?

nope, but I didn't add the $600 stimulus or anything else...just straight up 1040, one W2, some LOSS in stocks, and one 1099-INT from one bank....figure it should be the same...nothing else was hidden or added.

You can file a 2007 1040x- you pretty much put in your old amounts in the left column and the new amounts in the second column and the differences in the third. You can't tell where the difference comes from? Where do the numbers differ? Print out a completed 1040 and all the schedules from each software, then compare those 2 to your form the CPA prepared.

You can go back 3 years to claim refunds.
