Are the student loans and credit cards your only debts? How much credit card debt?

Most likely, you are better off paying off the credit cards. What's the interest rate on them?

There are all kinds of ways to use Vetereans' Benefits. Seek advice of qualified people. In my experience many states offer excellent incentives to those that serve in their National Guard.

Good Luck!

First I would pay off the credit card bill. When you start classes again, will the military be paying for them? If not I'd plan on saving money and paying for all further tuition expenses - no more loans. But if the military will be paying for your classes, I would work on building up a comfortable saving account (if you don't have one already), and then start working on paying off your private loans.
Best of luck.

Yes, ask your creditors if they can give you a rate discount. Most places have a "Soldiers & Sailors" discount.

If you don't pay on the loans the interest will accrue.

Am I missing something here?

Why haven't you looked into some of the military loan forgiveness programs I just googled up?

Oh, some lenders do defer loans while you are active.

Pay the credit cards off ASAP. Those things are poison (I've learned this the hard way).

Delay the student loans as long as you can. It won't hurt your credit score at all, and any interest you accrue will pale in comparison to what the recurring finance charges are on your credit cards.

Get a prepaid cell phone plan and stop paying $45 a month. Also... $60 a month for Internet seems really high. I have Roadrunner and only pay $35.
