My son and his girlfriend are having a baby in the fall. She is 17 and still lives at home with her mom and stepdad. The baby will have my sons last name and he will be listed as the father on the birth certificate. The question is....Does my son claim the baby on his taxes or does the girlfriends stepdad being that she lives in his household? Would it be easier for the girlfriend to claim the baby? Does the stepdad have any right to claim the baby?
If you son pays for over 1/2 of the child's expenses, he can claim the child. But that probably won't be the case with the grandparents providing housing, etc.
