I'm moving and just putting my house up for sale. I have an oriental that I've cleaned multiple times, but there is still a urine odor from training a puppy ~ it took a year and many, many accidents, and she will still have an occasional mishap. The real estate agent said she can smell the carpet - HELP!! Anyone know an effective carpet deodorizer...I can't afford to throw the carpet away. Thanks!

Sprinkle some baking soda on the problem areas and let it dwell, then vacuum. If you repeat this process several times you should achieve some decent results.

Hi Cherie, thanks for your thoughts, I tried the baking soda routine, but it only improved temporarily. It's an oriental and I want to keep the rug, but it DOES smell and I've steam cleaned it several times in the past 2 months.

They make special carpet cleaners that are supposed to take the smell out of the carpet. I'm not sure if any of them really work, but I'll ask around and see if I can find anything to help you.

Good luck!

I like Nature's Miracle. Amazon.com: Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover 1 Gallon (1 gallon jug (128-oz)): Kitchen & Dining

Most pet stores carry it. And it comes in different sizes with a spray bottle.

Excellent suggestion as this is an enzymatic product which will aide in diffusing the odor.

FWIW: The original Nature's Miracle, which was the best o' the bunch, is now marketed as "Petastic" (petastic.com). I've heard that the product now sold under the Nature's Miracle name is NOT as effective as the original formula, and that formulation IS the one now used for Petastic.

Well, I answered this post yesterday and provided a link to a product that works. For some reason the post was deleted. I sent a DM to the OP. If anybody else would like that info let me know.

I'll have to check for this in my pet store next visit, thanks for passing it along.
*I didn't see any current customer reviews on Petastic.*
Maybe I'll buy a small bottle and give it a try.
I will say that whatever formula of Nature's Miracle is on the shelf now, works good for me!

I tried everything the pet store had to offer and after tearing up carpeting twice because of my 2 Bichons, I got hard wood floors. The odor may seem to come out but it inevitably returns. Maybe in the past few years there are better products that I am unaware of, but Nature's Miracle was not helpful to me at all.
