Rescues dealing with older dogs and cats are getting a lot of press and attention lately and with good reason.

Older dogs are awesome. I've adopted two senior dogs. A miniature poodle mix at about 11 years of age and a miniature rat terrier who was 12. Both gave me years of good company. And I've also had two female terrier mixes who were 7 years old when they joined my family. Puppies are cute, but so much work and somewhat destructive.

me too-Saffy was 11, Jessie was 9. Both big and black, except for the gray muzzle and the hearts of gold. Saffy was also deaf, although I wasn't told that when I adopted her.

I wish more people who recognize the advantages of adopting a middle aged or older animal.
My experience has been nothing short of fantastic and very rewarding as well! Perfect for people who don't have time to deal with the huge commitment of training and exercising a puppy or adolesent!
And older dogs become every bit as devoted to their new families...totally WIN...WIN all the way around!
