Let's say you take your dog for a car ride somewhere, perhaps to a lake or big park, along the way your car conks out. You have your car towed to a garage, and from there, you need a ride to your house, with your dog/pet. Sorry! No pets in Taxicabs!

A good number of people have the luxury of calling a friend/relative to rescue them, but not everybody is that fortunate.

That almost happened to me the other night. Car broke down at midnite, having walked my ferret in downtown Tucson. Waited 2 hours for the tow truck to arrive. Meanwhile, I called a taxi company, 2 actually, telling them I'd need a ride from the garage once my car was towed there, and? No pets in taxicabs! 2 in the morning! I don't have a Uber app on my phone, but i just talked to someone who takes Uber a lot and, apparently, the policy is the same.

"Luckily" the auto shop I usually take my car has been shut down, so the tow truck driver drove me the 3-4 miles to my house.

It's a no-brainer that we live in a highly litigious world today, but be forewarned in case this happens to you, taking your pet for a car ride.

This obviously isn't some universal law. I haven't had trouble finding a taxi in the staging line at the airport that would accept my dog, but if I call for a ride obviously I tell them I have a pet with me. Taxis, Ubers, shuttles are private companies. They can make their own rules. Whether its because they don't want to deal with sweeping dirt or hair off the seat, are concerned about allergens, or the driver simply hates dogs, cats, ferrets, or other animals doesn't really matter. Do some research for your area and keep a list of taxi companies that accept pets. If you need a cab, call them.

Other than service animals it's up to the individual transport company or driver. How would you like to be the Uber driver who allows a cat into their car and the next customer is allergic to cats so gives the driver a 1 star rating for having a car that made them sick? Now the driver's future income is potentially impacted.
