Hi
We have a wonderful little Cairn. 9 months old. She gets along famously with our 85 pound Briard Nero.
But they love to really run about the house, really run.
One day after such a ruckus, she limped badly.
Of course a trip to the vet was made; no fractures, no evidence of any big dislocation. A week on NSAIDS helped a lot, but she limps yet a little.
Any ideas?
She wants to start roughhousing again, but we are reluctant.

Is she limping on a front or back leg? If it's a back leg, I'd be suspicious of a luxating patella just because she's a small dog. Though really what you're describing doesn't fit perfectly with that.
How recently did she start limping? If it hasn't been long maybe she pulled a muscle or a sprain? If it's something like that, I think I'd continue to rest her until she isn't limping anymore. If she's still limping after 2 weeks, a return visit to the vet may be in order.

Simon developed a limp and when I took him to the vet, they found a dental infection. A limp can mean many things. If it continues, take her back to the vet and get a blood test.

Thanks Kansas
To clarify for you, it's the front right leg, not the paw, not the shoulder -- the middle joint (whatever you call it).
Vet ruled out a luxation.
Agree more rest is in order, but you know Cairns!
Sprain or muscle pull agreed most likely, but didn't want to exacerbate it.
Was never any manifest pain.
Are we overreacting, though?

I think it would be smart to try to keep her from playing too hard with your big guy until she's no longer limping. Much easier to say than do, I know.

It may be as simple as a damaged pad, my Teddy tore his rear pad. Always had a odd run as he would go flying holding that foot high.

My Aussie terrier did that, she is age 7 almost 8. I went off to church she was in her crate. Music
on, and her Busy Bone, O a choice of 2 crates! I came home, and she does the happy leap
and out for potty, and her right paw, as help! It was Sunday, got her vet, if broke she could not even stand? He said check her pad, so she was made to rest! Next day she was, the terror! I was worried, somewhat, and she did lift, that front paw! Then she must of forgot it! It was her right front paw, and no yelp that it hurts! She loved the rest for one day, then mega Jump, and Leap!

My vet was thinking of it, however, it was Sunday, dog, is Happy, no pain!
Amen, she did rest one day, and all was OK! He as much did say that, which
was true. A leg, broke the dog would be yelping if I did touch it, he was
correct, my thought a mean fire ant! They also do go for me! I was talking , as what did happen to my dog, and the other dog with the paw limp!
Also, if minor, save the fee, for the vet and Xray! A good vet will tell you this, and, know now times are hard.
