Hi - I've accepted a new position at work in Chadds Ford PA. I'm not really a suburb person and am relocating from Boston. I looking for a fun place to live where I can meet people as I really don't know many people. I'm looking for an area for $1000 to $1400 depending what's included. I will need parking as I will be commuting to Chadds Ford.

I'm 29 and single. So not too young of an area but not a family area either. Picky I know! I'm fun and outgoing so hoping to find a great place to call home.

Do you want high rise/midrise living or low rise/walk-up living?

I prefer walk up but a high rise is not a deal breaker. I'm not overly picky on the type of building.

I currently live in S. Philly and commute to Chadds Ford daily. Pretty easy commute - about 35/40 mins. I would strongly suggest you look around in the city. The surburbs near Chadds Ford are no place for a 29 year old. the one possible exception is West Chester, but that might a bit young for your liking.

I absolutely second this suggestion. That part of the metro area is definitely exurban territory, with a strong focus on quiet, family living -- as opposed to young singles looking for more action. A "reverse" commute from the city would be much more ideal for someone in your situation.

I would also suggest South Philly. Try areas like Bella Vista or Queen Village or Graduate Hospital. Also, try Center City in areas like Old City and Washington Square West.

^^^ The one area I would personally avoid from the above list is Old City. It is where tourists and college types go to party. Rittenhouse Square area is good if you can swing it on your budget though you'll get more for your money in Queen Village, Bella Vista and Graduate Hospital, in that order. As always, you'll trade off location for price.

I’m surprised no one has told you yet that living in the city will cost you approximately 4% of your gross salary as a wage tax that all city residents must pay. Also it is a long and stressful commute. Media is the county seat of Delaware County and has lots of apartments. Continuing south along Rt 1 it is pretty much suburban sprawl but it's worth a look. Have you seen the map? There is a huge and fabulous YMCA on Rt 1 just south of the Granite Run Mall if you are in to swimming or working out. It is a great place to meet people.

I think the "I'm not a suburb guy" thing is why we did not suggest any suburbs to the OP.
