Hi,
Which SEPTA would be the preferred one to use to go to Center City from Elkins Park?
I've been told to use the one in Jenkintown, which is about a 5-7 minute drive by car to get to (the Noble station is the one I've found--right off of 611, Old York Road). But I noticed on the SEPTA rail map that there's a station right in Elkins Park. So I'm a bit confused as to why I'd be referred to use the one in Jenkintown if I will be living in Elkins Park? Any thoughts??
Is there a piece to the puzzle I'm missing?
Thanks so much...

According to the schedule it looks like many of the R5 trains do not stop at the Elkins Park stop. That may be the simple reason. If the trains to and from Elkins Park fit into your schedule, I don't see why you shouldn't use that station.

SEPTA

The same for the R3
SEPTA

ETA - I just checked the SEPTA website again and besides the R5 and R3 trains above the R2 also stops at Elkins Park and has a lot more trains.

SEPTA

and so does the R1

SEPTA

Red face Jenkintown

I take the train everyday. Jenkintown is the best place since multi. Trains go through there. R1, R3, R2, R5. Pretty much anyone of these will take you in the city.

Any train that goes from Jenkintown to Center City has to go through Elkins Park -- but it doesn't need to *stop* in Elkins Park. I haven't found a real pattern to which trains stop and which don't.

Noble Station is only on the R3 line, while Jenkintown sees trains from the R1, R2 & R5 lines in addition to the R3.

The actual Jenkintown Train Station is on Greenwood Ave at Glenside Ave. Depending on where you live in Elkins Park, it shouldn't take but a few minutes to get there. I can help you with directions if you need it.

Thanks so much for the info. Now I see the Jenkintown Station is definitely closer than I thought. I thought the Noble station was the Jenkintown station because as I drove north on 611, I figured if I was in Jenkintown, then the Noble station was the 'Jenkintown' station. Thanks so much for clarifying this for me!

I'm currently renting at Elkins Park House, 7900 Old York Rd. I think I'm closer to the Elkins Park station, but I'll have to take a ride and find out for sure. I've been so busy unpacking I haven't had a chance to do that.

This is a great forum. Thanks everyone for helping out a newcomer! I'm really excited to make my first trip into the city soon, and you've all helped me a lot.

You're welcome! And you can definitely walk to Elkins Park - it's just 2 blocks east on Spring Ave. If you wanted to drive to Jenkintown, just go 1 block north on Old York Rd & turn left at that light (Chelten Hills Dr). Follow Chelten Hills Drive to the 2nd light - that's Greenwood Ave. Turn right, but the entrance to the train station is actually to the left of the actual road. Hard to explain, but you'll see what I mean.
