I have seen his work but have no idea who he is or where he came. His building are fine stone works and seemed to be light years ahead in design back in the 1930's. I believe he was from Drexel Hill but not certain. If you know anything about this builder I would love to hear what it might be.

Cool if you live in Delaware County

If you live in Delaware County from Foss to Drexel and from Township Line to Dermond Ave. Charles Sheldrake may have been your builder. His specialty stone homes. Many very elegant. He was born about 1900 had a wife Leah and 2 children as of the 1940 census and at that time lived in a beautiful home at 1240 Lindale Ave.Drexel Hill Pa 19026. He operated a business according to a 1942 Handbook at Mason and Edmonds there are 2 homes at that corner 3600 Township Line and 1233 Mason and I am not sure which had been the business but both homes from the exterior was a work of art. He was doing his business at a time when there had been a Hot Shoppe in 69th St and Howard Johnson had locations in Media and Newtown Square. John McClatchy was also building at that time and 1942 Garrettford School was just planning its opening. His building work is impressive and if you live in one I am sure you admiringly witness the beauty of his craft each day. If you know more share it with us. I want to know more about this builder.
