My family and I just moved to the Southampton area from AZ and we are currently living with my in-laws. We are looking to get out and rent our own place somewhere in the area (within ~30 minutes of Southampton) and prefer a 3 bedroom home. However, I am having a difficult time finding homes to rent in the northern suburbs and am wondering if anyone knows of some good sources for finding rentals.

Also, what kinds of monthly rates seem normal for this area and size of home? I am kind of shocked to be seeing rentals near $2,000/month since I was expecting to find something for about half that price. I can easily find rentals in Philly for $1,000 but I am wanting to stay in a good school district for my son who is starting Kindergarten.

I like http://www.trulia.com/ for house rentals. Choose the "rent" option with some of these zips 18976 18966 18974 19009 19053

$2000 seems reasonable for a 3 bedroom townhouse in that area. Rents in Philadelphia will be lower because of the school system and the wage tax.

Trulia is a really good source. You may want to move to Elkins Park, Abington, Bucks County, Reading. These places are near the city and have public trans running through them (well, except for Bucks). If you really want to distance yourself from Philly, but still be within a 20-30 minute drive you could consider a place in Bucks County.

Here are some houses in Abington that meet your criteria:
Abington Apartments For Rent and other Abington Rentals — Trulia.com

Here are some houses in Bucks County:

Bucks County, PA Homes For Rent — Trulia.com

Here are some in Reading:

Reading Homes For Rent — Trulia.com

Here's the thing, you could get a lot of apartments for that in the burbs. But single family homes are kinda so-so unless you go to the counties I gave you (and maybe more, you have to look).

I really would not recommend anybody looking to move into a good school district to move to Reading. Also, Bucks County is a huge county and the vast majority of it is nowhere near Philadelphia. Maybe the closest in parts.

Also, there's no public transportation in Reading except for buses.

Ya get what you pay for,. There is a reason Philly wants less.

No pretending like you.... Facts. Philly has horrible schools, horrible public service, is dirty & unsafe unlike the more expensive burbs and (Southampton ).. + you have the 4% wage tax. Like I said, ya get what you pay for. Its as simple as that

Yes Frank speaks the truth.

The zips I posted are for Southampton and townships adjacent to it. I would check them all because there aren't many houses for rent. Also you could go further afield and still have an easy commute.
