My boyfriend grew up in NE Philly and so did his mother, and they do occasionally call Center City "downtown."

He also calls the Blue and Orange lines the "train" and the "subway" sometimes.

One could add "It's great being the 6th Borough of New York!"

I agree about the downtown thing. People call the area Center City but people say "I'm going downtown" all the time, at least where I live in Philly. I would love to know who they get to write these articles...

The basement bar thing is spot-on though IMO

I say "downtown" too but usually Center City. I also say "sub" for the Broad Street Line but it's just the "El" for the El.

The Yankee thing was never true before 2009-but may be true today. Also, plenty of people hate the Phanatic, although I'll never understand why. And we do know what he is-he is a rejected Muppet from the Galapagos Islands.

5. Chocolate sprinkles are always jimmies. Rainbow can go either way.
7. 676 actually isn't that bad going eastbound (shore weekend travel days excepted).
15. Subs are also found in parts of the (Philly-frequented) Jersey Shore. You'll get what you ask for if you order a hoagie, but everyone will know you're a shoobie.
22. I've seen a lot of online Amoroso hate. I think they're alright, but nothing to write home about.
24. El above ground, subway below ground.

I often hear Center City referred to as town (not downtown). You take the subway to ball games. I have nothing good to say about Amoroso rolls.

Yep, it's a very old way of referring to Center City for some people. We did the same thing: called Center City either going, "in town", or "downtown".

There was a television show a couple of years ago on ABC that was set in Philly. I can't remember the name of it offhand but it starred Dana Delany.

Anyway, sometimes they would have an address that was on 14th Street. Also, a few times they referred to a location as in "East Philly."

Cold Case was a rare show in that it did do location shooting for part of its run. They tended to get geographical places right.
