I have seen some condos in northeast Philadelphia that are potentially interesting for a later retirement. Is there significant noise from the PNE airport?

The place is the Fountain Pointe condo. What interests me is the indoor pool and the fact that it is walking distance to a grocery store. Condo are between $120K and $179K. One listing said they are age-restricted to 55+, other listing say nothing about age-restriction. Any comments would be welcome.

I haven't personally been up that way but I work in aviation and can tell you that condo is in the direct approach to one of the runways, which means aircraft will be going low and slow (the time where you would hear the most noise). They do have a noise abatement procedure in place - PNE - Noise Abatement

That condo would be in the approach to Runway 6, which doesn't have any specific noise procedures since it is the secondary runway. Coming from someone that deals with communities in the vicinity of airports often - if you are sensitive to noise, don't move next to an airport.

You might want to look at Delaire Landing or Baker's Bay on State Road.

Beautiful area, thanks! The Zillow listing will get you to the City web site showing the assesment. I see the property taxes in the city of Philadelphia are significantly less than in Bucks County. Are there any hidden taxes in the city?

It's far from hidden, but there's the city wage tax. You probably wouldn't be effected. There's a retired woman who regularly posts on this board who can answer that if she comes into this thread.

Thanks. I make only Social Security and a small amount of 401K withdrawals, so not affected by a wage tax.

I am also looking at condos in Bucks County, and am horrified by the property taxes. One place in a beautiful senior community sells for about $220,000 but the property tax is about $4200. I know there is a senior rebate program, but I would only get $250-350 off the taxes. Is there a homestead exemptiion I am missing.

Wage tax. But that's not hidden.

Dunno about Bucks Co. But there is a homestead exemption in the city. There are no age or income restrictions. The exemption will reduce your home assessment by $30,000 thereby reducing your property taxes. You must apply for it, obviously.

Well, I worked in Montgomery County for a few years & once a year we were dunned $10 to cover the right to work tax. I don't know if everyone paid it or only people working in Montgomery County or everyone who lives in the county. I'm just saying this because it shows that this is an issue that varies by county.

The poster who I mentioned has shown up. She is better equipped to help you as I paid the taxes as an interstate commuter.
